Aliko Dangote is a Nigerian businessman who founded the Dangote Group, a conglomerate with major operations in cement production, sugar refining and, since the 2023 opening of the Dangote Refinery near Lagos, oil refining, one of the largest single-train refineries in the world. Beginning in 1977 by trading commodities with a loan from an uncle, he built Dangote Cement into Africa's largest cement producer, with plants across more than ten African countries. He has repeatedly ranked as Africa's wealthiest person in business media surveys and has been a prominent advocate for African industrialization and reduced dependence on imported fuel.
