Sir Alfred Fernandez Yarrow, first Baronet, was a British shipbuilder who started the shipbuilding dynasty behind Yarrow Shipbuilders. Born in East London in 1842, he was educated at University College School, served an apprenticeship at Stepney and in 1865 opened a yard at Folly Wall in Poplar to build steam river launches. From the 1870s he built torpedo boats for foreign navies, and in 1892 he built the first two destroyers for the Royal Navy, Havock and Hornet. He moved the works to Scotstoun on the Clyde between 1906 and 1908 and sat on the Royal Commission on Fuel and Engines from 1912. He died in 1932.
