Named events in which two companies combined into one, or one company acquired another, including transactions completed as combinations, acquisitions and takeovers, and cases where a company was formed directly through the merger of several predecessor firms. Belongs here: any event whose defining act is one company gaining ownership or control of another, or two companies joining under common ownership, whether structured as a friendly merger, a hostile takeover, or a foundational combination that created a new corporate entity. Does not belong here: a later demerger or divestiture that reverses or unwinds an earlier combination, grouped under Corporate Breakups and Divestitures, and antitrust cases that examine a company's market position rather than record a completed combination, grouped under Antitrust and Regulatory Actions.
