Skippy (peanut butter)

Skippy is an American brand of peanut butter, manufactured in the United States and China, first sold in 1932 and now made by Hormel Foods, which bought the brand from Unilever in 2013; it is the best-selling peanut butter brand in China and the second best-selling worldwide after Jif. The Skippy name was originally trademarked in 1925 by cartoonist Percy Crosby for his comic strip of the same name, which ran from 1923 to 1945, but in 1932 food packer Joseph L. Rosefield of Alameda, California, began selling peanut butter under the Skippy name; after Crosby was committed to an asylum and the Lanham Act passed in 1946, Rosefield secured legal rights to the trademark, though members of Crosby's family pursued litigation over it for decades afterward.
