Nik-L-Nip is a brand of confectionery created in the early 20th century and marketed today by Tootsie Roll Industries, sold as small wax bottles filled with fruit flavored syrup. A consumer bites off the top of the wax bottle to drink the syrup inside, then chews the remaining food grade wax, which is non-toxic but not meant to be swallowed. Its name is thought to combine the original five cent, or nickel, price with the word nip, either a reference to small liquor bottles of the same name or to the nipping motion used to open the candy.
