Coinbase is an American cryptocurrency exchange founded in 2012 by Brian Armstrong and Fred Ehrsam. As of 2024 it has more than 100 million users and is the largest United States based cryptocurrency exchange and the world's largest bitcoin custodian, operating in more than 100 countries and holding nearly 516 billion dollars in assets, including close to 12 percent of all bitcoin in existence and 11 percent of all staked ether.
