Calculator watch

A calculator watch is a digital wristwatch that combines timekeeping with a built in calculator operated from small buttons set into the watch face. Most models handle basic arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, while more advanced versions added scientific functions, financial calculations or even television remote control features. The category emerged in the mid-1970s, led by Pulsar, a Hamilton Watch Company brand, and by Hewlett-Packard, with early luxury examples such as the solid gold Time Computer Calculator 901 selling for about four thousand dollars; mass production grew through the early 1980s and peaked mid decade before declining in the mid-1990s as mobile phones and personal digital assistants took over the same functions. Casio became the best known maker, producing the widest range and gaining fame through film appearances and celebrity endorsements, with its Databank series adding contact and appointment storage to the calculator functions, while Timex and Seiko also sold popular versions; today calculator watches are collected mainly as vintage fashion pieces.
