Amazon Echo is a line of smart speakers developed by Amazon, first released in November 2014, built around the Alexa voice assistant for music playback, information queries and control of connected smart-home devices. It helped establish the smart speaker as a mainstream consumer product category and Alexa as one of the most widely used voice assistants, competing chiefly with Google Assistant-powered speakers and Apple's HomePod.
