Wine Industry

Wine is an alcoholic drink made from fermented grape juice, typically between 12.5 and 14.5 percent alcohol by volume, produced by harvesting and crushing grapes, fermenting the juice with yeast that converts sugars into alcohol, heat and carbon dioxide, and then finishing and bottling the result, traditionally sealed with a cork. The global wine industry produced about 237.3 million hectoliters in 2023, led by France with 20.2 percent of world production, followed by Italy at 16.1 percent, Spain at 11.9 percent and the United States at 10.2 percent, while France also captures the largest share of export value at 33.3 percent and Italy exports the greatest volume. The global wine market was valued at about 515.1 billion dollars in 2024, with growth projected at 7.1 percent through 2030 driven in part by organic and premium wines.
