The video streaming industry is built around video on demand, a media distribution system that lets users access television shows, films and videos digitally on request rather than through a traditional playback device or a fixed broadcast schedule. It grew out of newer modes of content consumption made possible as internet and IPTV technologies became prominent, culminating in on-demand and over-the-top media services delivered to televisions and personal computers.
