Poultry Industry

Poultry farming is the branch of animal husbandry that breeds domesticated birds, chiefly chickens, ducks, turkeys, and geese, to produce meat or eggs for food, and it operates at an industrial scale distinct from the broader meat industry it feeds into. More than 60 billion chickens are killed for consumption every year, and farmed poultry today makes up 70 percent of all bird biomass on Earth against just 30 percent for wild birds. Seventy four percent of the world's poultry meat and 68 percent of its eggs are produced through intensive, industrial-scale operations rather than smaller farms. China leads global production with more than 5.14 billion chickens as of 2019, followed by Indonesia with about 3.7 billion, and the United States, Brazil, and Pakistan round out the leading producing countries.
