The meat industry comprises the people and companies engaged in modern industrialized livestock agriculture for the production, packing, preservation and marketing of meat. Economically it sits across a fusion of primary agricultural activity and secondary industrial activity, making it difficult to classify strictly as either alone. The greater part of the industry is meat packing, the segment that handles the slaughtering, processing, packaging and distribution of livestock such as poultry, cattle, pigs and sheep.
