The drone industry makes and sells unmanned aerial vehicles for uses that now reach well beyond the military, including aerial photography, precision agriculture, forest fire monitoring, environmental monitoring, weather observation, policing and surveillance, infrastructure inspection, product delivery, entertainment and drone racing. Its consumer side was reshaped when DJI released the first Phantom drone in 2013, an entry level model that quickly captured the consumer drone market, and by 2017 DJI alone held more than 75 percent of global consumer drone market share. The related global military uncrewed aerial systems market was valued at about 12.5 billion dollars in 2024 and is projected to reach about 20 billion dollars by 2034.
