World Savings Day, also called World Thrift Day, is observed every year on 31 October. It was established on 31 October 1924 during the 1st International Savings Bank Congress in Milan, Italy, where Professor Filippo Ravizza declared the day on the congress's final session, and it is kept today by the World Savings and Retail Banking Institute to raise public awareness of the importance of personal saving.
