Byrraju Ramalinga Raju (born 1954) is an Indian businessman who founded Satyam Computer Services and served as its chairman and chief executive from 1987 until 2009. He studied commerce at Andhra Loyola College in Vijayawada and earned an MBA at Ohio University. After early ventures in hotels, cotton spinning and construction, he started Satyam in Secunderabad with about twenty employees; the company won its first Fortune 500 client in 1991, went public in 1992 and launched the internet subsidiary Satyam Infoway in 1999. In January 2009 he admitted that Satyam accounts had been falsified over several years, including non-existent cash and bank balances, and he resigned from the board. In 2015 he and his brothers were sentenced to seven years in jail for corporate fraud, an episode that led to the collapse of Satyam.
