Larry Denman Clarke lived from 1925 to 2015 and was a Canadian businessman, the founder, president, chief executive officer and chairman of SPAR Aerospace Limited, the designer of the Canadarm. Born in London and educated at Eton College before moving to Canada in 1939, he served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War and earned a law degree from Osgoode Hall in 1949. He worked in the Canadian Department of Defence and at de Havilland Aircraft before leading the acquisition of SPAR from de Havilland in 1967. He became an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1988 and received the Canadian Space Agency Chapman Award in 2004.
