Sir Peter Joseph Beck is a New Zealand entrepreneur and the founder of Rocket Lab, an aerospace manufacturer and launch service provider. He grew up in Invercargill, trained as a tool-and-die-maker apprentice at Fisher and Paykel, and experimented with rockets and propellants in his spare time, building a rocket bike and a jet pack. After working at Industrial Research Limited from 2001 to 2006 he toured United States aerospace facilities and went on to start Rocket Lab that year. Rocket Lab moved its registration to the United States around 2013 and flew its Electron rocket successfully from January 2018. Beck was appointed a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2024.
