David E. Shaw is an American businessman who founded the investment management firm D. E. Shaw and Co. in 1988 after leaving a faculty position in computer science at Columbia University, building it into one of the largest and most prominent hedge funds in the world through quantitative, computationally driven trading strategies. The firm became known as an early training ground for future technology and finance figures, including Jeff Bezos, who worked there before leaving to found Amazon.
