Chris Rowen is an American entrepreneur and technologist who is one of the founders of MIPS Computer Systems in 1984, of Tensilica in 1997 and of Babblelabs in 2017. He was named a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in 2016 for leadership in the development of microprocessors and reduced instruction set computers. He was raised in Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and Atherton, California, the son of the national security expert and economist Henry Rowen, attended Harvard University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in physics, then earned a master's degree and a PhD in electrical engineering at Stanford University in 1985.
