Samuel David Camillo Olivetti (13 August 1868 to December 1943) was an Italian electrical engineer and the founder of Olivetti and Co., the Italian manufacturer of computers, printers and other business machines. He was born in Ivrea, Piedmont, into a bourgeois Jewish family; his father, a textile trader, died when he was twelve months old, and his mother looked after him and sent him to a boarding school in Milan. He went on to study at the Royal Italian Industrial Museum, later the Politecnico di Torino, and at the Technical Application School, where he attended electrotechnics courses led by Galileo Ferraris. The company was later run by his son Adriano.
