Wendelin Wiedeking (born 1952 in Ahlen) is a German mechanical engineer who was president and chief executive of the sports car maker Porsche from 1993 to July 2009. He studied at RWTH Aachen, earned a doctorate in engineering in 1983 and joined Porsche that year, later returning as head of production in 1991. He took over as chairman when Porsche was close to bankruptcy and brought about a turnaround by trimming the model range, modernizing production along the lines of Toyota's lean manufacturing and renegotiating work rules with the unions. The unprofitable 928 and 968 were dropped, the 911 was overhauled and the Boxster and Cayenne were added. His tenure ended after Porsche's unsuccessful attempt to take over Volkswagen, and market manipulation charges against him were dropped in 2016.
