Raymond John Noorda, known as Ray Noorda, lived from 19 June 1924 to 9 October 2006 and was an American computer businessman who served as chief executive of Novell from 1982 to 1994 and as its chairman until he was replaced in 1994. Born in Ogden, Utah, to Dutch immigrant parents, he graduated in engineering from the University of Utah in 1949 and worked for General Electric until 1971. In 1983 he assembled the SuperSet team that produced the file sharing system later called Novell NetWare, and in 1992 he founded the Canopy Group.
