Hera S.p.A.

Hera S.p.A. is a multiutility company based in Bologna, Italy, whose name stands for Holding Energia Risorse Ambiente, or Energy Resource Environment Holdings. It was formed on November 1, 2002 through the merger of eleven public utility companies in the Emilia-Romagna region, and it now provides natural gas distribution, water supply, waste treatment and electricity distribution across various Italian provinces. As of 2025 data it is Italy's leading waste treatment operator, its second largest water supplier, its third largest gas distributor, and its fifth largest electricity distributor by volume, running 94 treatment plants and serving about 3.6 million water customers, 1.8 million gas customers and 2.5 million electricity customers.
