Simon Property Group, Inc. is an American real estate investment trust headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, formed in 1993 when the Simon family's shopping mall business, built up since the 1960s by Melvin Simon and his brothers, went public. It is the largest owner and operator of shopping malls and premium outlet centers in the United States, and its portfolio of retail properties across the country made it a bellwether for the health of American brick-and-mortar retail.
