Mittal Steel Company

Mittal Steel Company N.V. was a steel producer incorporated in the Netherlands and headquartered in Rotterdam, with major operations in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1989 as Ispat International by Lakshmi Mittal, the company grew into one of the largest steelmakers in the world, producing 110.5 million tonnes of steel in 2006 against an annual production capacity of 138 million tons. In August 2006 Mittal Steel acquired the Luxembourg based steelmaker Arcelor, and the two companies combined to form ArcelorMittal, ending Mittal Steel Companys existence as an independent company on August 1, 2006.
