The Texas and New Orleans Railroad was an American rail company headquartered in Houston, Texas, chartered in 1856 as the Sabine and Galveston Bay Railroad and Lumber Company and renamed in 1859. Operating across Texas and Louisiana, it grew into the largest railroad in Texas, running 3,713 miles of track by 1934 as part of the Southern Pacific systems transcontinental route between New Orleans and San Francisco, and hosted named passenger trains including the Sunset Limited and the Argonaut. It ceased to exist as an independent entity when it merged into its parent, Southern Pacific, on November 1, 1961.
