Fort Smith and Western Railway

The Fort Smith and Western Railway was a railroad that operated in Arkansas and Oklahoma, incorporated in Arkansas in 1899 and opening its main line on November 1, 1903. Its 197 mile line ran from Coal Creek, Oklahoma to Guthrie, Oklahoma, serving coal mining operations and towns including Bokoshe, McCurtain, Weleetka, Okemah, Boley and Prague. After financial difficulties the railway ceased operations on February 9, 1939; a portion of its trackage was later acquired by the Fort Smith and Van Buren Railway, which operated until it was merged into the Kansas City Southern Railway in 1992.
