Kansas City Southern de México

Kansas City Southern de Mexico (KCSM) is a Mexican railroad operating about 3,315 miles of standard-gauge track across northeastern Mexico, connecting Monterrey and Mexico City with access to United States and seaport terminals. It began in 1996 as Transportacion Ferroviaria Mexicana (TFM), a joint venture between Kansas City Southern Industries and Transportacion Maritima Mexicana formed after Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo privatized the country's disrepaired rail system, and the venture won the concession to operate the Northeast Railroad, which carried 46 percent of Mexico's rail traffic and 60 percent of its freight from the United States. Kansas City Southern Industries bought out its partner's shares in 2005 and renamed the company, and the line carries significant automotive traffic, with eleven of Mexico's fourteen auto assembly plants located on its network. Canadian Pacific Railway purchased KCSM for 31 billion dollars in December 2021, and by April 2023 the company operated as a subsidiary of the merged Canadian Pacific Kansas City Limited.
