Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad

The Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad was a bridge railroad company chartered February 25, 1834 and headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, operating about 113 miles of track connecting Richmond to Washington, D.C. Rather than originating its own freight, it functioned as an intermediary linking major carriers such as the Pennsylvania Railroad, the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway. The company ceased operations in 1991, after which its track became part of the CSX Transportation system.
