Philadelphia and Western Railroad

The Philadelphia and Western Railroad was a high-speed, third-rail-equipped interurban electric railroad incorporated on May 21, 1902 to serve the western suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, running between the 69th Street Terminal and Norristown with a branch to Strafford. The Strafford branch was abandoned in 1956 and a portion of its right-of-way in Radnor Township is now the Radnor Trail; the company was sold to the Philadelphia Suburban Transportation Company, operator of the Red Arrow Lines, in 1954, and its remaining line survives today as SEPTA's Norristown High Speed Line.
