Ohio and Mississippi Railway

The Ohio and Mississippi Railway operated between Cincinnati, Ohio and East St. Louis, Illinois from 1857 to 1893, having started construction in 1854 running westward from Cincinnati and completing its East St. Louis terminal in 1857. Originally built to six-foot broad gauge, it was converted to standard gauge on July 23, 1871, and was reorganized under its current name in 1867 after insolvency, later becoming part of the Great Broad Route connecting St. Louis to New York City under Baltimore and Ohio Railroad control. The railroad merged in 1893 with the Baltimore and Ohio Southwestern Railway and its lines are now part of CSX Transportation's Indiana and Illinois subdivisions.
