Michigan Central Railroad was a historic American railroad chartered in 1832 to connect Detroit, Michigan, with St. Joseph, Michigan, and it later extended operations across Michigan, Indiana and Illinois in the United States as well as the province of Ontario in Canada. The New York Central Railroad assumed control of the company around 1867, and its network subsequently passed through Penn Central and Conrail before Norfolk Southern Railway acquired much of its former infrastructure and assets following Conrail's 1998 breakup.
