The Green Bay and Western Railroad, known as the Green Bay Route, was a Wisconsin freight railroad that operated from 1896 to 1993, formed from the bankruptcy of two predecessor lines to connect Green Bay with East Winona. By the end of 1970 it ran about 322 miles of track and also operated the Western Refrigerator Line Company, a fleet of 500 refrigerated cars it had established in 1929. The Itel Corporation acquired the railroad in 1978, and in 1993 it merged with the Fox River Valley Railroad to form the Fox Valley and Western Railroad.
