Fremont and Indiana Railroad

The Fremont and Indiana Railroad Company was incorporated on 25 April 1853 in northwest Ohio by L. Q. Rawson, Sardis Birchard, James Justice, John R. Pease and Charles W. Foster, with Rawson as its first president. Construction reached Fostoria, then called Rome, and freight and passenger service began on 1 February 1859, with the line extending to Findlay by 1860; the company nonetheless failed financially and was sold to creditors in 1862 for 20,000 dollars. After further reorganization it became the Lake Erie and Louisville Railway, and in 1879 it was consolidated with the Indianapolis and Sandusky Rail Road to form the Lake Erie and Western Railway.
