Covington, Columbus and Black Hills Railroad

The Covington, Columbus and Black Hills Railroad was a historic narrow gauge railroad company that operated in northeast Nebraska. It opened in 1876 and ran about 26 miles of 3 foot 6 inch gauge track connecting Covington, now part of South Sioux City, to Ponca, and it is described as possibly the only narrow gauge revenue railroad ever to run in Nebraska. In 1879 the company merged into the Sioux City and Nebraska Railroad, which was later absorbed into the Chicago, Saint Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railway, extending service on to Wynot.
