Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad

The Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, reporting mark CBQ, was a railroad established in 1855 through the consolidation of predecessor lines, operating across the American Midwest and West. At its height the railroad ran about 12,000 miles of track through Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, South Dakota, Texas, Wisconsin and Wyoming, with major hubs at Chicago, Minneapolis-St. Paul, St. Louis, Kansas City and Denver. It was known for paying continuous dividends without ever defaulting on its loans, a distinction unique among Class I United States railroads of its era. In 1970 the Burlington merged with the Northern Pacific Railway, the Great Northern Railway and the Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway to form the Burlington Northern Railroad, which eventually became part of BNSF Railway.
