St. Louis-San Francisco Railway

The St. Louis-San Francisco Railway, commonly known as the Frisco, was a railroad incorporated in Missouri in 1876 that operated across nine states in the Midwest and South Central United States, including Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi and Florida, from its headquarters in Springfield, Missouri. Despite its name, the line never reached California, terminating more than 1,000 miles short of San Francisco; by the end of 1970 it operated 4,547 miles of road carrying freight but no passenger service. The Frisco was purchased by and absorbed into the Burlington Northern Railroad on November 21, 1980.
