Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore Railroad

The Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore Railroad was an American railroad headquartered in Philadelphia that operated across Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland from 1836 to 1902. It was formed in 1838 when it merged with three other state chartered railroads to create a single line between Philadelphia and Baltimore, and it later expanded south into the Delmarva Peninsula through further acquisitions and operating agreements. The Pennsylvania Railroad acquired it in 1881 and merged it into the Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington Railroad in 1902; its right of way remains in use today as part of Amtrak's Northeast Corridor and Maryland's MARC commuter rail system.
