Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines

The Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines was a railroad that operated in southern New Jersey through the 20th century, created in 1933 as a joint consolidation of two rival regional railroads, the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Reading Company, which held two-thirds and one-third ownership respectively. Headquartered in Camden, New Jersey, its roughly 413 miles of track connected Camden and Philadelphia, via ferry, to South Jersey's seashore destinations, ending the previously fierce competition between the West Jersey and Seashore Railroad and the Atlantic City Railroad, which had once raced trains on parallel tracks as little as 50 feet apart. The railroad operated under the reporting mark PRSL from 1933 until 1976, when it passed into Conrail, later split in 1999 between Norfolk Southern and CSX.
