Coleford, Monmouth, Usk and Pontypool Railway

The Coleford, Monmouth, Usk & Pontypool Railway was a 16 mile standard gauge railway company in Monmouthshire, Wales, built to carry mineral products from the Forest of Dean to the ironworks of South Wales by connecting to the Newport, Abergavenny and Hereford Railway. Financial difficulties halted its plans to convert the horse-drawn Monmouth Railway to locomotive operation, and mineral traffic proved less lucrative than hoped. The company leased its line to the West Midland Railway in 1861, which was soon absorbed into the Great Western Railway; passenger service ended in 1955 and the line fully closed in 1993.
