Ringwood, Christchurch and Bournemouth Railway

The Ringwood, Christchurch and Bournemouth Railway was formed to link Christchurch and Bournemouth, England, to the London and South Western Railway line at Ringwood. It opened from Christchurch to Ringwood in 1862 and was extended to Bournemouth in 1870 as the town grew in popularity. Its route was circuitous, and after the London and South Western Railway opened a shorter route via Sway in 1888, the Ringwood to Christchurch section became a branch line.
