Cranbrook and Tenterden Light Railway

The Cranbrook and Tenterden Light Railway was an English railway company authorized by the Cranbrook and Tenterden Light Railway Order of December 1899, promoted by the Rother Valley Railway to bring rail access to the High Weald area of Kent that surrounding lines had bypassed. Its full plan called for a line running from a junction near Cranbrook station through stations at Cranbrook Town, Sissinghurst Road, Benenden and Rolvenden to join the Rother Valley Railway, but only a mile and a half of track was ever built, between Rolvenden and Tenterden Town, opening on 15 April 1903. That short stretch closed to passengers in 1954 and to freight in 1961, then reopened in 1974 as part of the preserved Kent and East Sussex Railway, which still operates it today.
