Hayle Railway

The Hayle Railway opened in 1837 in west Cornwall, England to carry copper and tin ore from mines around Redruth and Camborne to the port of Hayle, later adding coal, machinery, timber and general merchandise and, from 1843, passenger service. The West Cornwall Railway purchased the line on November 3, 1846, and closed it briefly in 1852 for improvements before reopening it that March as part of a new main line between Penzance and Redruth; much of its original alignment remains part of the main line railway to the present day.
