Edgware, Highgate and London Railway

The Edgware, Highgate and London Railway was established under an 1862 act of Parliament to build an 8.75-mile steam railway through rural Middlesex, now suburban north London, connecting Finsbury Park to Edgware by way of Highgate and Finchley, opening in 1867. It was purchased by the Great Northern Railway the same year it opened and operated under that company, later passing to the London and North Eastern Railway in 1923 before its route was absorbed into what became the London Underground's Northern line.
