Southern Railways is a regional branch of Ukraine's national railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, headquartered in Kharkiv. Its route network covers the railroads of the Kharkiv and Poltava regions and parts of other oblasts. As of 2008 the branch operated about 3,000 kilometers of track and served as a significant transit route for traffic between Russia and Crimea and between Russia and the Caucasus.
