Societe Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois

The Societe Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois, known as CFL, is the national, government-owned railway company of Luxembourg, headquartered in Luxembourg City. It was established on May 14, 1946 through the nationalization of the country's private railway operators, and today manages passenger and freight rail services across Luxembourg together with cross-border connections into Belgium, France and Germany over a network of 630 kilometers, most of it electrified. CFL is Luxembourg's largest corporate employer, with around 5,000 staff as of 2023, and carried roughly 31.4 million passengers in 2025; ownership of the company is split between Luxembourg, Belgium and France. Since 2020 most rail travel within Luxembourg has been free to passengers, apart from first-class tickets.
