Galician Railway of Archduke Charles Louis

The Galician Railway of Archduke Charles Louis was a privileged railway company chartered by Emperor Francis Joseph I on April 7, 1858 and managed by Prince Leon Sapieha, operating in the Austro-Hungarian province of Galicia. Its line ran west to east across the province, linking Krakow, Tarnow, Rzeszow, Przemysl, Lwow and Tarnopol, and by the end of the century the company ran 175 steam engines, 345 passenger cars and 3755 freight cars over a network of about 850 kilometers. The company, named for Archduke Charles Louis of Austria, was purchased by the Imperial Royal Austrian State Railways in 1892.
