WuXi AppTec Co., Ltd. is a Chinese pharmaceutical and biotechnology services company headquartered in Shanghai, one of the largest contract research, development and manufacturing organizations serving the global drug industry. It was founded in 2000 by Ge Li and colleagues, initially offering chemistry research services to Western pharmaceutical companies, and expanded over the following two decades into a broad platform covering drug discovery, laboratory and clinical testing, and large-scale pharmaceutical and biologics manufacturing on behalf of client companies. WuXi AppTec's business model, sometimes described as a contract research, development and manufacturing organization or CRDMO, allows biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies worldwide to outsource significant parts of the drug development process. The company operates research and manufacturing facilities across China as well as in the United States and Europe.
