Biotechnology

This group collects Health Care sector members that develop biologic medicines derived from living organisms rather than synthesized chemical compounds: therapeutic antibodies, gene and cell therapies, mRNA vaccines, blood-plasma-derived medicines, and the many single-product and early-stage biotechnology companies built around one class of biologic therapy. It also gathers one company applying biotechnology to livestock genetics rather than human medicine, named here as an imperfect fit rather than left silent. This group is kept apart from Pharmaceuticals, reserved for chemical drug makers, and from Life Sciences Tools and Services, reserved for companies that supply instruments, reagents or contract research and manufacturing services to biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies rather than developing a medicine of their own.
