Liberty Mutual Insurance is an American diversified global insurer headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, founded on July 1, 1912 as the Massachusetts Employees Insurance Association to write workers' compensation coverage under a newly enacted state law. It has grown into one of the largest property and casualty insurers in the world by some rankings, a Fortune 100 company with more than 40,000 employees operating in 27 countries and economies and generating over 50 billion dollars in annual consolidated revenue. Liberty Mutual organizes its business through three main units, US Retail Markets, Global Risk Solutions and Liberty Mutual Investments, and offers both personal lines such as auto and homeowners insurance and a broad range of commercial coverages.
